How the Strength Training App Is Structured #

This overview introduces the layout of the Strength Training app so you know where to find things before diving into specifics.

Main navigation #

The left-hand sidebar is always visible and has five sections:

  • Home – a dashboard with new, popular, recommended, and recently viewed content.
  • Exercises** – a searchable, filterable library of exercise demonstrations. This is one of the most-used areas of the app, since it’s where you look up how to perform and analyze specific exercises.
  • 3D Model – an interactive body model you can rotate, isolate, and explore by muscle, bone, or joint.
  • Theory – a video library covering the science behind training, organized by topic.
  • Training – build or browse structured workout programs. This area is covered in its own separate guide.

A Help icon appears at the bottom of the sidebar, with links to FAQs, feedback, and legal information.

How We Analyze Exercises #

Muscle & Motion analyzes exercises through a visual-first biomechanical and kinesiological lens, focusing on the internal mechanics of the human body during movement. This analysis goes beyond simple demonstration, using high-fidelity 3D animations to reveal what happens under the skin for every exercise in our library.

Our exercise analysis methodology includes the following key components:

1. High-Fidelity 3D Animations

We use unique, translucent 3D human figure animations to provide a clear view of the musculoskeletal system in action.

2. Biomechanical and Kinesiological Detail

Our analysis focuses on the science of movement rather than just static anatomy.

– **Joint Actions**: Exercises are analyzed according to the planes of movement the joints move in (e.g., frontal plane abduction/adduction).
– **Mechanical Anchors**: We visualize how fixed versus mobile attachment points impact muscle function and exercise effectiveness.
– **Interactive Overlays**: Visual representations include muscle origins, insertions, and innervation, giving you a clinical understanding of how a muscle pulls on the bone to create movement.

3. The “Clinical Corner” and Error Analysis

A distinctive feature of our analysis is the focus on injury prevention and form correction.

– **Common Mistakes**: We explicitly show common exercise errors using 3D overlays of the skeleton and muscles to demonstrate why certain forms are risky.
– **Coaching Tips**: Exercises are accompanied by professional coaching tips and biomechanical explanations to ensure safe execution.

4. Direct Anatomical Integration

Every exercise is linked back to our comprehensive anatomical database.

– **Specific Muscle Targeting**: You can select a specific muscle (e.g., the rectus femoris) and view a curated list of strengthening or stretching exercises that target that exact muscle.
– **Scientific Credibility**: All exercise analyses and anatomical content are co-created with PhDs and clinical physical therapists to ensure absolute scientific accuracy.

Home screen #

When you open the app, you land on the Home screen.

It shows a welcome message and several horizontal, scrollable rows: “New Content,” “Most Popular,” “Recommended For You,” “Recently Viewed,” and “You Might Be Interested In.”

These rows mix exercises, theory videos, and training plans together. Click any thumbnail to open it.

Top bar #

Across the top of every screen, you’ll find:

– **Search** – a text field that searches the entire app at once (exercises, muscles, and theory videos together).

– **Bookmark icon** – opens **My Collection**, where saved videos and exercises are stored.

– **Profile icon** – your account menu (name, email, My Profile, Pricing, and Log out).

[SCREENSHOT: Top bar close-up with Search field, bookmark icon, and profile icon each labeled]

The Exercises section #

This is where most day-to-day work happens in the app. It’s a searchable grid of exercise cards, each showing the exercise name and two tags (Category and Area). Above the grid sits a **Search Exercise** field and a **Filter** button.

The Filter panel lets you narrow the list by Category, Area, Sub-Area, Equipment, and Movement Pattern.

Clicking any card opens the full exercise details page, including video, muscle breakdown, instructions, and related content.

Active Muscles #

The **Active Muscles** panel breaks down which muscles are involved, grouped by role:

– **Target** (red) — the main muscle the exercise trains.

– **Synergist** (pink) — muscles that assist the target muscle.

– **Stabilizers** (yellow) — muscles that hold the body steady during the movement.

Click any of these three rows to expand it and see the specific muscle names. Click a muscle name to jump straight to that muscle’s page in the 3D Model, where you can see it highlighted on the body and read more about it.

[SCREENSHOT: Active Muscles panel with the “Target” row expanded, showing muscle names underneath]

Tips #

– Check the **Common Mistakes** tab when it’s available; it’s the fastest way to see what “wrong form” looks like next to correct form.

– Clicking a muscle name under Active Muscles is a shortcut into the 3D Model; you don’t need to search for the muscle separately.

The 3D Model section #

This is an interactive body model. On the right side, three icons let you switch between viewing **Muscles**, **Bones**, and **Joints** as separate layers. Clicking any structure on the model (or finding it through the in-model search) opens a panel with details: Movements, General Info, and Origin & Insertion, plus buttons to **Isolate** or **Hide** that structure.

[SCREENSHOT: 3D Model default view, full body, with the Muscles/Bones/Joints icons on the right visible]

The Theory section #

This is a video library. A left-hand list lets you jump to a specific topic category (12 in total, covering everything from Anatomical Terminology to Research Insights), or browse “All Videos.” Each category shows its videos as thumbnails with a duration badge; clicking one opens a video player.

[SCREENSHOT: Theory section showing the category list on the left and the “Most Viewed” row of video thumbnails]

Tips #

– The Exercises section, the 3D Model, and exercise detail pages are all cross-linked — a muscle name on an exercise page opens that muscle in the 3D Model, and a muscle in the 3D Model links back to exercises that train it. You rarely have to search from scratch once you’re inside any of the three.

– The top bar Search is the fastest way to jump straight to an exercise, muscle, or theory video without browsing manually.

– Content saved to My Collection is only visible to your account and won’t affect what other users see.

How to Search for Exercises/Videos in the App? #

This covers the different ways to search in the Strength Training app, depending on whether you want to search everything at once or narrow your search to one section.

Searching the whole app at once #

  1. Click the **Search** field at the top of any screen.
  2. Type any term — an exercise name, a muscle, or a topic (e.g. “squat”).
  3. Results appear grouped into three categories, each with a count: **Exercises**, **Muscles**, and **Theory**.
  4. Click any result to go straight to it, or click **Show all results** to see the full list.

[SCREENSHOT: Top bar search showing typed query “biceps” with grouped results under Exercises, Muscles, and Theory]

Searching within Exercises #

  1. Open the **Exercises** tab from the sidebar.
  2. Use the **Search Exercise…** field to filter the grid by name as you type.
  3. Click **Filter** to narrow results further by Category, Area, Sub-Area, Equipment, or Movement Pattern.
  4. Use the **Sort By** dropdown to reorder results (Default, A–Z, or Z–A).

[SCREENSHOT: Exercises tab with the Search Exercise field filled in and the Filter panel open]

Searching within the 3D Model #

  1. Open the **3D Model** tab from the sidebar.
  2. Click the search (magnifying glass) icon on the right-hand toolbar.
  3. Type a muscle, bone, or joint name into the **Find muscle/bone/joint…** field.
  4. Click a result to jump directly to that structure on the model, with its info panel already open.

[SCREENSHOT: 3D Model search box open with a typed query and a dropdown list of matching muscles]

Tips #

– If you’re not sure which section something lives in, use the top bar Search first — it covers Exercises, Muscles, and Theory in one search.

– Use the Exercises page filters (rather than typing) when you know the type of exercise you want but not its exact name — for example, filtering by Equipment: Bodyweight.
